Role Title: P.A.T Testing and Repairs Co-ordinator
Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £18,319 per annum
Contract term: 12 months with potential to go to permanent
Place of Work: Little Hulton, Eccles and Ancoats


Mustard Tree helps people to learn new skills, find work, secure accommodation as well as providing the resources needed to create a home. Our focus is on tackling both the causes and consequences of poverty and homelessness. We have bases in Little Hulton, Eccles and Ancoats provide training schemes, retail shops, furniture delivery and collection services and food clubs.

We particularly welcome applications from people who live in Little Hulton or Salford area and this is an idea role for someone who may be older and have experience in DIY, electronic repairs and/or gardening.

Role Purpose

This role will be responsible for PAT testing electrical items including white goods that come into the Little Hulton/other Mustard Tree shops

The role includes training our Volunteers to become PAT testers and to help people develop practical, work-ready skills

The role will involve some lone working (with another site close by) supported by volunteers

There is potential to develop the role into training in other practical skills including basic DIY, repairs and gardening

The role may require some travel to Eccles and Ancoats site (once or twice a week)

What you will be doing: Job Description

  • Helping to sorting the different electrical donations and delivering PAT testing required
  • Cleaning and sanitising of the electronic devices and household appliances such as white goods, ready for sale in the community shops of Mustard Tree.
  • Moving and manual handling of furniture, heavy household goods, electrical items and household related equipment
  • Providing on-the-job training to Freedom Volunteers, working with the Freedom team and relevant staff members including training in PAT testing
  • Working to Health & Safety policy including use of PPE, face masks, and incident recording
  • Work in line with our values, providing a consistent and welcoming approach to clients and Freedom Volunteers
  • Assist in day-to-day cleaning responsibilities. This includes dusting, sweeping, hoovering and toilet cleaning.
  • Providing support to the drivers/warehouse team in deliveries and collections if required
  • Completing basic paperwork to help provide evidence of training
  • Working with other staff members to maintain the safety and wellbeing of volunteers
  • Working with the manager to evaluate and develop other practical training in areas such as DIY and gardening

General Work duties:

  • Support volunteers to develop ‘work ready’ skills and behaviours i.e. confidence, punctuality, time management, communication, teamwork and initiative
  • Work within health & safety guidelines and Mustard Tree policies and procedures
  • Supporting other staff including the retail shops, warehouse and providing practical relief cover for work-streams
  • Take responsibility for professional development, attending training courses as required
  • Leading by example, embodying Mustard Tree values
  • Contribute towards being an environmentally responsible organisation as part of day to day activities including recycling and supporting ‘paper-lite’ practices
  • Other tasks and duties relevant to the role as required by the organisation

What we’re looking for: Person Specification

PASS Ltd.; In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment course and/or equivalent accreditation Essential*
Experience in electronic repairs of white goods / domestic items Essential
Physically able to partake in heavy lifting and work in a busy warehouse Essential
Ability to break down tasks into simple steps and to train others Essential
Flexible and enthusiastic attitude and good communication skills Essential
Working knowledge and experience of health and safety requirements Desirable
