Caretaker-Facilities Supervisor

Role Purpose:

To work with the Building Manager “Cleaning Supervisor” Building curator to implement a timetable of Caretaking Duties supported by volunteers for the benefit of service users within the Mustard Tree. To support volunteers within the charity. Promote volunteering opportunities within local communities and manage external and internal communication relating to caretaking volunteers.



Job Title: Caretaker-Facilities Supervisor
Responsible To: Creative Programmes and Volunteering Manager
Salary: £18,426 (pro rata)
Working Hours: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday. 3pm-9pm or 12pm – 6pm as required and depending on activities.
Duration: Initial 12-month fixed-term contract



Mustard Tree aims to create opportunities for people who face multiple barriers including homelessness, addiction recovery, overcoming offending history, long term unemployment, health or emotional wellbeing issues, seeking asylum and those granted refugee status.


What you will be doing: Job Description

  • Work with the Building Manager to build relationships with staff teams across Mustard Tree to assess the need for volunteers and maintain positive relationships between volunteers/staff
  • Create and update volunteer role descriptions for every role
  • Develop and deliver appropriate training for volunteers
  • To develop and maintain good working relationship and provide training and for volunteers
  • Work with the Building Manager to develop outcomes and reports on a regular basis
  • Develop and maintain good practice policies and procedures.
  • Hold monthly or bi-monthly group communication sessions with Manager
  • Supervise out-of-hours activities including rota organisation and communications


General Work duties:

  • Support volunteers and service users to develop ‘work ready’ skills and behaviours and feel part of the community
  • To organise meetings with individuals, co-producing tailored volunteering schedules and training programs
  • Work within health & safety guidelines and Mustard Tree policies and procedures
  • Supporting other staff and departments and provide practical relief cover for work-streams
  • Take responsibility for professional development, attending training courses as required
  • Leading by example, embodying Mustard Tree values and represent the charity as required
  • Contribute towards being an environmentally responsible organisation as part of day to day activities including recycling and supporting ‘paper-lite’ practices
  • Other tasks and duties relevant to the role as required by the organisation
  • Be flexible able to work Saturdays as required and agreed

Specification Essential / Desirable
Minimum 2 years’ experience in caretaking Essential
Checkable 5-year work history and references Essential
Experience of working with and/or supporting people, and experience of working with vulnerable adults Desirable
Physically able to undertake all required duties including manual handling Essential
Strong time management and administration skills, with the ability to multitask Essential
Willing to undertake personal development and team training Essential
Good English language ability both in written and verbal forms Essential
Ability to work independently and organise themselves as well as part of a team Essential
Flexible and can-do attitude encouraging others to work to our vision and values Essential
Confidence in using email and the phone and comfortable in working to deadlines Essential
