Branch Team Leader – Little Hulton

Job Title:   Branch Team Leader Little Hulton 
Responsible to:  Retail and Logistics Manager 

(supported by Services Manager) 

Salary:   £23,972 depending on experience (Equivalent to new NJC pay scale points 7-16) 
Working Hours:   37.5 hours a week 
Duration:   Permanent

Role Purpose 

Working across different teams, you will lead the retail, logistics and site services functions within the Salford sites of Mustard Tree. This includes coordinating the retail provision and overseeing the stock. This role includes managing safeguarding risks and incidents, signposting, training Freedom trainees to gain work ready skills, overseeing a successful and food safety compliant Food Club. The role will also involve maintaining strong working relationships and pathways with colleagues in different teams, local statutory agencies and partner organisations and so good communication is essential. Although each role will have a specific base Little Hulton, flexibility and willingness to travel across all Mustard Tree sites to provide cover is essential. 

What you will be doing: Job Description   

  • Manage the Little Hulton branch to maintain a safe and effective retail space, food club and community hub 
  • Line management of retail staff including regular 121s, appraisals and performance management and work effectively with relevant support staff onsite 
  • Ensure compliance to all appropriate health & safety, and security policies and procedures. 
  • Ensure the shop is fully stocked and effectively merchandise and manage stock rotation to develop and maintain safe and attractive shop displays 
  • Oversee the donations including working with staff and volunteers to regularly sort and process all donations, recycling any items that cannot be reused, using controlled pricing of items for sale 
  • Handling cash and performing bank runs, including using the till and cashing up. 
  • Ensure that Freedom trainees are trained to develop ‘work ready’ skills, retail skills (using our training manuals) and behaviours. 
  • Supervision of the ‘Friends of Mustard Tree’ volunteers, working with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure appropriate cover and the wellbeing of all team members. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partner organisations  
  • Understand/contribute to safeguarding and risk management using incident and safeguarding forms, attending annual training and escalating concerns to the management. 
  • Produce management information and regular reporting  
  • Work in line with our values, providing a consistent and welcoming approach, advocating for Freedom volunteers inside and outside the organization. 
  • Managing the day to day running of the retail shop and site. 
  • Work alongside the Freedom Project Team to co-ordinate the daily activity of volunteers,  
  • Support volunteers to develop ‘work ready’ skills and behaviours i.e. confidence, punctuality, time management, communication, teamwork and initiative 
  • Promote and maintain the general welfare and morale of volunteers, escalating any safeguarding concerns to the Safeguarding Lead 
  • Supporting the Induction and Graduation events of volunteers, including providing informed and helpful feedback 
  • Maintain and develop a positive customer experience, ensuring all personnel maintain a high standard of customer care 
  • Work closely with the warehouse team leader, to ensure efficient and supportive practices  
  • Ensure you work within health & safety guidelines and security policies and procedures 
  • Supporting other staff and departments as required and providing relief cover for other hubs  
  • Take responsibility for personal and professional development, attending training courses where appropriate 
  • Apply Trading Standards Regulations in the shop and ensure all personnel are aware of these 
  • Working with GH and reporting and managing any maintenance issues on site, working with external contractors. 
  • Other tasks and duties relevant to the role as required by the organisation 

General Work duties:

  • Contribute towards being an environmentally responsible organisation as part of day to day activities including recycling and supporting ‘paper-lite’ practices 
  • Other tasks and duties relevant to the role as required by the organisation
