Mustard Tree has received a grant of £50,000 from Nationwide Building Society as part of their Community Grants programme, which brings their members and colleagues together to help tackle the housing crisis.
The funding will enable Mustard Tree to help people who are at risk of losing their home by providing essential skills and training to improve self-efficacy and economic wellbeing.
Jo Walby, Mustard Tree CEO said: “We are extremely grateful to Nationwide Building Society for this community grant, which will enable our charity to support more people in more meaningful ways – helping our trainees to learn new skills, build confidence and find avenues into work”.
Britain’s biggest building society has run its Community Grants programme since 2017 – offering grants of up to £50,000 to local charities and projects, particularly those focussed on housing. This year, it’s awarded a total of £4.3 million to 96 housing related projects across the UK.
Craig Taylor, Senior Social Investment Manager at Nationwide Building Society, said: “Helping local communities and charities is at the heart of what it means to be a building society for Nationwide. We are pleased our Community Grants programme is going to make a difference through this £50,000 grant to Mustard Tree, helping them make a difference to the lives of those who rely on their services.”
Over the last five years, Nationwide Building Society has awarded £22 million to housing charities up and down the UK. That means almost 118,500 people are now living safer, happier lives. From April 2023, Nationwide will be offering new grant applicants up to £60,000 to support those in housing need.

Notes to Editors:
It was our members who decided that we should give at least 1% of our pre-tax profits to local causes, all over the UK. That was back in 2007 – and today, we’re still as passionate about giving back as we were then. With this money, we run a number of programmes, such as our Community Grants programme.
FOR COMMUNITY GRANTS: For more information on Nationwide’s community grants programme please visit nationwidecommunitygrants.co.uk.
Applications are shortlisted and then our regional Community Boards, made up of our members and colleagues, come together to award the grants. The next round of funding opens on 24 April 2023. For more information visit, www.nationwidecommunitygrants.co.uk
Applications have to support at least one of our social priorities: preventing people from losing a home, helping people into a home, and supporting people to thrive within their home environment.
