The Exhibition
Mustard Tree partners with artist David Tovey during the With One Voice International Arts and Homelessness summit and festival, celebrating the power of art in tackling homelessness.
Emerging artist David Tovey delivered workshops with Mustard Tree’s textiles class, whose attendees played a crucial role in delivering the ‘Man on the Bench’ production.
People from Mustard Tree, many of whom have never sown or made anything before, were taught to create costumes for the catwalk performance. They created jewellery and other accessories in a workshop with art class volunteer Amy Travis.
The work was a true collaborative effort, supported by MMU students who volunteer with awareness-raising organisation Love for the Streets.
The project ran for six weeks in total, and the final performance took place on 18th November. On the night people from Mustard Tree helped fit the costumes to the models, and assisted in hair and makeup preparations for the performance.
We are delighted for people to have the opportunity to deliver a high-profile performance to a wider audience, as part of an international festival.
