Digital Storytelling

In collaboration with STRETCH, we have started to coordinate digital storytelling classes for our Freedom Project participants. Digital storytelling is a short form of digital media production that allows people to share aspects of their life story.

The benefits to participants are numerous as they will, with support from STRETCH, write and produce their own films using iPads supplied to all students. Primarily we have seen that telling an honest and personal story with a strong positive message is a valuable therapeutic experience and provides an enormous boost to self esteem. Scriptwriting improves English language skills and the all important ability to express oneself clearly. The choice of visual images encourages creativity, again with a view to personal expression. The production process will develop familiarity with the range of applications available and how to use them to achieve desired outcomes and sharing the films will increase awareness of social media presence and how to use it to your own benefit.
These main benefits, along with others that differ from one participant to the next, have a positive affect on an individual’s confidence and overall wellbeing. It also provides practical skills towards employability in a modern economy and full participation in the advantages of the electronic age. Watch some of our participants stories below.
