Mustard Tree is committed to combatting food poverty across Greater Manchester.
We provide the tools and the platforms for people to build themselves up and out of poverty -developing skills and confidence- into education and into work. But it is unrealistic to expect people struggling to feed themselves and their families to be able to attend classes, sit exams, pass job interviews.
With soaring inflation and cost of living, fuel poverty & food shortages following dampened COVID recovery, more and more people in the city are having to rely on food clubs to provide for themselves and their households.
Across Mustard Tree’s three sites, we now see over 200 people a day building up their weekly food shopping with us. Before March 2020, it was 40 people a week.
We are determined that this increasing need shouldn’t result in people ‘having to resort to‘ our support. Mancunians should be able to get the same items, same quality goods, the same ingredients, the same opportunity to cook for their kids and the same dignity of choice as those of us that can still afford Supermarkets.
To do this, we need your help. If each student and member of staff is able to bring in one (or more!) of the below, we can make a massive difference in the community.
Any donations Xavierian can make will be brilliant, but if most students/staff are able to contribute and we end up with a few thousand items on the list, it will not only offset an enormous cost to the charity, but guarantee people get a bit more variety, a bit more dignity with their shopping.
